The park will be the city’s first in over a century.
Regeneration Archives - NewStart
‘This is the start of a bright new era for Meridian Water.’
Cllr Chris Gibson, chair of the planning committee said the scheme was the biggest opportunity Nottingham had seen in years.
The 12.27-hectare site could see 500 new homes, associated public open space and a new secondary school built.
The estate, which was built in the 1960s, will see homes either demolished or redeveloped, with new homes built on under-used land.
It’s hoped the project will stimulate creative thinking not only about the derelict railway site, but also about the regeneration of the High Street.
A soon-to-be demolished housing estate in Hull has hosted its second ‘graffiti jam’, which attracted over 100 artists from across the country to spray paint 22 homes.
‘I look forward to reviewing the innovative proposals from local leaders to transform our high streets.’
The old-1950s housing stock currently in Sheerwater will be replaced by a variety of energy-efficient new build homes which will be made available for rent and sale.
The scheme will look to put vacant properties into ‘meanwhile use’, with community groups offering temporary services from well-being classes to business support sessions and mentoring for social enterprises.
